February 10, 2025 – Boom Supersonic’s XB-1 has successfully completed its test program with a second supersonic flight, reaching Mach 1.18 (772 mph) at 36,514 feet. Chief Test Pilot Tristan “Geppetto” Brandenburg conducted the 41-minute mission, during which XB-1 broke the sound barrier three times—without producing an audible sonic boom.
The flight gathered key data for Boom’s upcoming Overture airliner, confirming the feasibility of "Boomless Cruise" technology for quiet supersonic travel over land. NASA used specialized Schlieren photography to capture shock waves, further validating the aircraft’s performance.
With testing complete, XB-1 will return to Denver as Boom focuses on developing Overture, marking a new era in supersonic travel.
